Gavin is a Chartered (UK) and European Patent attorney and works in the fields of electronics, physics, engineering and computer-related inventions.
Gavin has experience on a range of patent matters, including patent drafting and patent prosecution. He works closely with clients in both industry and academia.
Gavin has worked across a number of different technology sectors and has particular experience in computer-related inventions, medical devices, photonics, energy, networking and communication technologies, video games and AI-based technologies.
Gavin also has substantial experience advising SMEs as part of the UKIPO IP Audit scheme.
Gavin joined Marks and Clerk as a trainee patent attorney and qualified as a European and UK Patent attorney in 2018.
Gavin graduated with a Masters in Mathematical Physics and then went on to complete a PhD in particle physics theory, both at the University of Edinburgh. Gavin then worked as a scientific researcher at DESY, Zeuthen and his work there included implementing complex mathematical techniques in software to make theoretical predictions for elementary particle physics at the Large Hadron Collider. He is the author on a number of academic papers.
