Glasgow Tech Fest

Yesterday was the first time the Glasgow Tech Fest was hosted by Glasgow City Innovation District at the University of Strathclyde's Technology & Innovation Centre. The event was aimed at supporting technology companies, entrepreneurs and the tech ecosystem in Glasgow to flourish. It was wonderful to attend this tech event in-person, network and speak to some of our clients, who used this event to showcase their inventions.

The event included panel discussions and talks on topics, such as founders, investment, ecosystem and industry sectors. It was very inspiring to listen to the journeys that some of the panellists and speakers have taken to build their businesses and the challenges they faced when doing so.

No doubt the recent pandemic has affected many start-ups, so it was encouraging to hear that 2021 has been a record year for investment raised in the UK with sectors such as fintech and deep tech being the main drivers. In recent years, the numbers of patent filings relating to deep tech have rapidly increased, which seems to be a reflection of the massive growth in this technology sector.

“This first Glasgow Tech Fest is a great example of the benefits that companies can gain through co-location and interaction with the University of Strathclyde. Glasgow City Innovation District is a unique innovation ecosystem that is now home to more than 1,600 firms spanning a range of sectors, making it one of the most concentrated collectives of innovative organisations in the UK.”
