Are Curiosity and Cats the keys to success of MVFW?

The fashion industry continues to reflect on the first ever Metaverse Fashion Week which took place at the end of March. As the industry adopts the new four-letter acronym “MVFW”, the event seems set to rely on the more established concept of “FOMO” for its future success. FOMO is the “fear of missing out” and this combined with the comparative accessibility of digital fashion should bode well for the future – particularly for more innovative events, such as Dolce & Gabbana’s catwalk show which featured feline avatars as models. After all, who doesn’t love cats on the internet?!

Many of us think that designer fashion is “not for us” – we are too old, too young, the wrong shape and size, or we just can’t afford it, but I think sheer curiosity will prevail, and FOMO will prove to be a force for positive change. Opening up fashion events to anyone with internet access, without restriction on numbers or any preconceived ideas, will introduce existing products to a whole new demographic. It will encourage new talent in the fashion and design space and should surely be a huge boost to diversity.
